Mystery: 'G50' (What's inside?)

Postby Taylor » Tue Mar 28, 2017 7:41 am

Let the first in-game mystery begin!

I can't figure out what the 'G50' printed on the door of Yooka and Laylee's ship means. I don't think it's a random aesthetic detail; it seems too specific and purposely placed on the main door to be meaningless. Why 'G50'? What does it mean, or reference? Is this significant in any way? :?

My first thought was that it may be something from Playtonic's real world (e.g. Playtonic's office room number), but I can't find any information about this. I've exhausted my brain of every real-world possibility, including in-jokes about Gavin Price or Grant Kirkhope -- nothing seems to fit...

Perhaps it's a clue to how we can open the door? The first Note Door in Banjo-Kazooie required 50 notes -- coincidence? Do you need 50 G's to unlock the door? I'm probably thinking a bit too hard now, I admit...

Bonus mystery: where does the door lead?

Stop 'N' Swop confirmed.

Maybe I'm going Bat Ship Crazy.

Not that this helps you decode it in anyway, but is it possible that it might not be a five and zero, but instead the letters "S" and "O"?

I'm pretty sure that I once saw playtonic or one of the members of playtonic tweet a picture of their door to the office. That had a number on it as far as I remember. It's just difficult finding such a old tweet.

I declare this mystery is not yet solved sufficiently, as G05 is certainly not G50.
Maybe you're on the right track but but it's not conclusive, I dare you to analyse further :p

What happened in room G50 and who worked there, what was his purpose? Hmmm...

I am at work right now but I will certainly look into this later :p

I wondered if the file select screen is through that door, a bit like Banjo's house. I know a file select screen similar to Banjo-Kazooie's, with Yooka and Laylee sitting around, has been confirmed (which I'm really pleased about).

Edit: Just found footage of the file select screen -- it does not take place within the room.

Do we have in-game footage from the same door? (I mean a video or different angles)

What if a backer pledged high enough to have this as an Easter egg, and only they know the reason behind it?

What lies behind that door is not meant to be seen by mortal eyes, it would drive you mad if you saw what kind of disturbing secret is hidden in there. It's best to leave it alone and think of happy thoughts. Lol

Try as I might, I really can't think of any reason for putting G50 on the door instead of G05. Maybe the designer made a mistake and forgot what the door number was, and as it is such a small detail, nobody noticed?

We've got to get Andy or somebody to shed light on this.

Fun fact: Pixar also reference a room number in all of their films -- .
