THis only shows some critics don't know how to do their job properly. Either the controls are good or they are bad. Either the frame rare issues are slight or they are major. The critics can't agree on these points. It's not hard to do. We can know what good controls are and what the difference between slight and major frame rate issues are.

Why is it we all know when these things occur or do not occur but some of the critics don't as evidenced by their reviews?

Ouch, that stings. Even so, I will play it myself to see if I agree with the reviews.

Somehow I expect myself to really, really enjoy it and not understand how others dislike it XD

I'll wear glasses anyday to have some fun
and I don't generally like modern games.

But yes, unexpected to say in the least!
All was looking well! But I digress... Let's await sales for now and allow Playtonic to return to the drawing table later. I really trust these developers from Playtonic.

...Unless they would give up now, in that case they can p off. Take the criticism to heart. Smoke some pot, drink some tea, have an orgy (whatever you guys do at 4o') and blow the poo-poo out of everyone next time. I KNOW the potential is there.

Here's a comment I made on Reddit.

For anyone who's feeling upset about the reviews for Yooka Laylee, check out the reviews for the rereleases of Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie.

Somewhere along the way, 3D platformers started to lose their appeal among a lot of gamers, and that can be seen clearly with this game. Yes, there's a lot of people who don't like it, but that doesn't mean you won't like it. In fact, many of the negative reviews for the game are listing things as cons that we wanted, like no voice acting, exploration, and collecting. It's a shame this game didn't turn out to be a critical success, but don't let these reviews hamper your experience with the game.

As of the writing of this comment, Yooka Laylee has a 64/100 on PS4, a 76/100 on XBone, and a 71/100 on PC, so about a 70-71/10 average, which is almost the same as the rerelease of Banjo Tooie.

Here are some more reviews: http://www.therwp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55260

Generally seems to be favored, with some mixed reviews in between due to technical issues or too much nostalgia (which I don't think most of us mind). Be warned, though...some of those reviews have spoilers of unreleased stills of worlds we've yet to see officially.

Edit: It's weird to me how some of the cons in the reviews are things I would like (no mini map, getting lost in worlds as you explore, ambiguous puzzles, mumbling dialogue). Isn't this what made the Banjo games fun? I don't want to be guided through a level with a mini map and markers on screen. Interesting how most reviewers needed a map to enjoy the fun of exploring.

For every bad review, I find a good one, so that's something. This game genuinely aims at Banjo fans.

If you like Banjo, you will most certainly like Yooka. If you're not a fan of oldschool platformers, you may be more inclined to give a bad review. I think the majority of this forum will love the game -- don't pay any negative reviews too much mind. Banjo's camera was also reviewed poorly back in the day, but I have absolutely no issue with it.

It seems like what I expected. Reviewers totally missed the point. They haven't suffered 17 years of waiting for this game, so they don't get it. Collecting a crud-ton of things in hard to find or obtain places is thee entire point. Some call it "arduous" or "tedious" - I call it a gift. Looking forward to playing.

Edit: ACTUALLY, the reviews seem mostly positive excluding those from the most major publishing sources. Check this list - https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments ... ew_thread/

I see far far far more 8s and 9s there. Then you see GameSpot, Polygon, VideoGamer, and that Nazi game reviewer. Something is definitely fishy here. That, or a lot of these "critics" can't handle a game that isn't just explosions and dudebro gunslinging anymore.

The more reviews I see, the less I become concerned. Out of at least 20 reviews only 4 are bad/scorching. And 1 is Jim Sterling, so I don't think that counts. :D

Yep! I'm actually seeing a TON more positivity than negativity. There are actually like 5 bad reviews, and one article that for some reason only highlighted the bad ones and ignored a wall of great ones that weren't from monolith names.

The Meta grades are high 60 & low 70 average.
That's NOT good. Let's hope tomorrow brings something good for YL!

Metacritic sucks anyway. Everyone either rates the game a 1 because of made up reasons, or a 10 to combat the 1s, or a 1 to combat the 10s. Complete joke of a site. Diablo 3 has a 4.0, which it's not. Modern Warfare 3 has a 3.4... Breath of the Wild is down to a 7.6 because of "rating 1 to balance the 10s". BOTW isn't a 10 but it's not a 7.6 either.

I'm rambling, but really Metacritic needs to die the death it deserves. A whimper, followed by the delete key.

So, Yooka-Laylee seems to be a love it or hate it kind of game. What a disappointment...

If it makes you feel better, all the negative comments are "old school platforming and collection". Which...

IS THE WHOLE POINT!

These reviewers are mad because the pipe is a pipe.
