Cant Bind to Steam Controller plz help

I'm on Mac OSx and the game runs great but i cant bind "left control" and "left shift" to my steam controller. The game registers these inputs through the keyboard but on controller say "left shift" causes Yooka to spin and throw his tongue out in one move, and for "left control" Yooka wont crouch at all... if anybody has any info or help pls do let me know. i want to figure this out before my mom purchases her key, she has never played a pc game but we both want to enjoy the full nostalgic experience THANK YOU. P.S. other binds work fine

The xbox 360 controller seems to be the standard for playing on computers including mac. If you want to avoid comparability issues in the future might want to use that.

I know that now, its just my household doesn't own any consoles anymore and my mom hasn't been interested in a game since banjo kazooie, me haven't used a controller since gaming pc didnt know that till i went out and bought 2 steam controllers for both of us thinking there shouldn't be any reason this doesn't work.

You could try controller mapping tools like Xpadder to fix this, at least until there's an update.
