Who is this character?

I noticed this strange creature hiding behind the bushes in one of the screenshots during the EGX Rezzed presentation. It looks similar to the creature from the first screenshot. What I want to know is who is this character and why is it hiding there?

That's one of the protagonists. I can't seem to make out the second character in the second picture, but apparently it's there somewhere...

Judging from some observation, the partner is likely a bird but of course, which kind? The main hero is likely a lizard or chameleon, from the new screenshot and zooming in to where its not as blurry. The reptilian character resembles loosely of Gex the Gecko, but obviously unintentional. The bird is shown to be pinkish from the small glimps. Don't take my word, others see it different.

It just instantly reminded me of this:

I thought it kinda looked like one of those small dinosaurs with the neck webbing, but the stuff at Rezzed about how knowing what kind of animal it is would spoil gameplay mechanics makes me think chameleon.

My first thought, before the sneaky lizard in the presentation still, was Banjo I still see Bear and Bird in that pic. But, searching the net has definitely revealed a closer resemblance to a lizard/chameleon. Perhaps it's a long shot, but do we think they'd perhaps take a lesser known character from one of their past games and feature them in this? Example: Rubee's pet Toots could be that pink bird-like figure.

Well, a lot of people have said that it might be a lizard or a frog, (I was hoping for something mammalian and adorable, but oh well,) and Platonic said that unveiling their characters now would reveal too much of the gameplay, so....

If it's a frog, we'll undoubtedly see use of that tongue, and that long-legged jumping-prowess. And maybe the croaker, too. Although this might also mean an abundance of water levels. But Rare games always had a lot of water in their games anyway.

If it's a chameleon that'd be super cool, but I'm not sure what they could actually do with the color mechanic. All sorts, I guess. We'd also probably see use of its tongue and tail.

Also I suppose it could walk up walls if it was a gecko, but a freaking BEAR was shown to be able to do that just fine.
