Implementing additional features to this board

Hey!

I like these forums pretty much, but didn't somebody from the staff say at some point that there would be additional features? Like a ability to like posts? I'm not expecting this place to become the next Smashboards, but that would be pretty neat, since its an great indicator to show if people who don't have to add anything to that topic agree with something.

Also, I would LOVE if we could embed some media in our posts - like YouTube videos and tweets on Twitter. Is there an easy way to set this up?

Agreed! I find myself often wanting to just "like" a post. The ability to embed would be awesome too. Those two features are about all I could need.

I resoundingly agree with everything mentioned above! And if we had these features, I could "like" those posts rather than cluttering the thread with a new post.

I would like to see the following implemented:
• "Liking" posts (and related notifications)
• Tagging forum members (by writing @username) (and related notifications)
• Embedding YouTube videos
• Embedding tweets
• Additional text options (superscript, subscript, strikethrough, horizontal rule, left/center/right alignment, etc.)

I've got a couple more ideas. The first one I think could be really useful. The latter two could be useful as well, though I doubt they'll be quite as popular.

• Indenting text (Not just the first line, but the whole paragraph.)
• Reply (Person A makes a post. Later, Person B wants to reply to the post, so he hits the Reply button specific to the post. Person A receives a notification that Person B replied to their post.)
• Tags/Hashtags (I'm just spitballing here. Maybe this would be nullified by the closed and organized ecosystem of a message board, but this could be something that helps join distinct conversations and promote certain ideas. Plus, the very nature of such features is that people often create their own uses for them.)

Oh what I though of as well would be a chat for forum members. I would LOVE that! Since we're on phpBB, there are tons of plugins, for example this one: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/mod/ ... w_version/

How about a shoutbox at the bottom of the forum frontpage?
I made it once for a site I created, it was fun as I also offered the possibility for guests to join in.

You can use Captcha with it to keep bots out.
