Griff The Winged Lion "Kickstarter 3D Platformer"

Postby Alucard » Sat Oct 01, 2016 11:05 am

Hey guys I found another good kickstarter 3d platformer.
I think this one is very interesting, very inspired by spyro crash bandicoot and other ps1 platformers.

Yeah well... What to say? Sometimes people seem to think that being retro is a good excuse for creating a bad gameplay experience overall and cutting corners at every turn, to top it off the developer seems a bit too autistic for my taste, everything look so symetrical.

I can't imagine feeling some kind of joy with this game so far and it completely fails to appeal to me.

Most probably because the "new features" that would make this game unique seem to be gimicky at best. But what interesting gameplay mechanics could turning things into gold have to offer other than collecting purposes? I don't think the developer really thought of that.

"Fan-game" what are we to do?

I mean, I like the concept, and the character designs are pretty cool overall... But the graphics?

Eh, look, pixelated sprites CAN look cool, regardless of how blocky they seem, but I don't recall anyone clamoring for a return of the bulbous, jagged shapes of early N64/PS1 3D games...

I feel like I can't be the only one. It's a nostalgic graphical style for a lot of people I'm sure.

I've definitely wanted a low poly callback to N64/PS1 styled platformers. I wouldn't say this was what I imagined, though, since I always imagined more of a parody/deconstruction of the genre rather than a game that plays it entirely straight. I'll still probably check it out regardless.

But I think instead of copying other indie games like the most kickstarter projects it hast got his own style.
I know they try to capture the spirit of oldschool ps1 3d platformer but its the first indie game which do this.

The Kickstarter failed... Oh well. I'm sure they'll find a way to finish this game without it.
