KickStarter

Postby Pokemaniac Dan » Sat Mar 14, 2015 9:39 pm

Hi,

Forgive my ineptitude, but what is a KickStarter? Sorry, I've never heard that term in regards to gaming and really have no clue what it entails. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

It's crowdfunding. You pay before the product is made to show your support and give funds to the developers, and in return you get rewards such as goodies.

Not to sound rude, but if you managed to find your way here, i'm sure a little independent research on the matter is not beyond your grasp. :)

One important point still needs to be addressed as far as this aspect of the campaign. It can be addressed as late as the actual Kickstarter page going up, but the question will be raised now:

If this team is set to produce the game, regardless of the Kickstarter's performance, then what is the point of raising money outside of gauging interest? The Kickstarter platform is one that exists for the purpose of crowdfunding, and if the title project already has the funds to make it happen then where is the additional money going? If there isn't a solid plan for how to use money raised on Kickstarter and it's ultimately just a survey with a paywall, then that doesn't reflect well on this team (no matter what the pedigree). I've actually encountered one person who already considers the project an outright failure as a result of the first presentation being a concept rather than a concrete game description and the team planning a Kickstarter when they have the money to move forward.

Trust me, I'm stoked about this project. I just think the team owes it to its fans to make them feel as secure as they can in their investment. Too, I'd hate for fellow contributors to feel embarrassed by critics who may have a point. They're backing something great, and I think they should be pleased to contribute.

Yes and an unnamed goldfish tapping on it's bowl 3 times shall be a stretch goal.

The larger the budget the more awesome they can make the game. Just because they have the funds to make a barebones experience doesn't mean they can't use more.

I like that they are being upfront about the fact that they plan to make the game no matter what. They could be like "You get nothing unless you pay us now!!!", but that's not how they are at all.

If you want the game to have the most funding it can get, now is the time to tell as many people as possible about the project.

That seems like a reasonable use for the money. Again, though, it would be nice to get word from them on that. I assume that won't be said until the actual Kickstarter begins, so there you go.
