Metroid Federation Force and Blast Ball : Your opinion

Postby Latikos » Thu Jun 18, 2015 8:05 pm

All right, so 2 days ago Nintendo had its digital event at E3 and... let's just say it was pretty underwhelming... Some interesting title were discussed such as StarFox, Zelda Triforce Heroes, Mario&Luigi Paper Jam which mix the Universe of Paper Mario and Mario&Luigi and Yoshi's Woolly World (though it comes out in one week in Europe...). Of course there was Fire Emblem, Amiibos, etc.

However the two games being most discussed right now are the two Metroid spinoffs : Federation Force and Blast Ball. If you're unfamiliar with it, here's a link :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGu3Xe1uUUg

While you're at it, look at the Like/Dislike bar... Yeah, this brings us to the subject...
Nintendo fans have reacted pretty badly to these new addition to the Metroid Universe. It's been five years since the last Metroid was published (an "okay" one at that) and people were really expecting RetroStudio to reveal the next Metroid/Metroid Prime... But instead, Nintendo revealed these two games which didn't reach anyone's expectation. In fact there's even a petition right now for CANCELLING the game and it's been signed by many many upset Metroid fans...

Here it is : https://www.change.org/p/nintendo-petit ... tion-force

And you what do you think? Metroid fan or not : Are you okay with the game? Did you sign the petition? etc.

As for me, I like Metroid but I started playing it way too late to call myself a fan. I really liked the precedent opuses and as everyone else, I was pretty bummed to see Metroid Federation Force and Blast Ball instead of a real Metroid title. However, I got over it pretty quickly.

As for the petition, I can understand why it was started, but I'm kinda not okay with it. There are people behind these titles and I feel like it's a little too early to judge.

They've announced that both Samus and Metroids will be in it, so I'm not that upset that it's being called Metroid, but Metroid Prime?

I consider Super Metroid to be one of the best SNES games, Prime 1 the best adaptation of a 2D series into 3D space, and Prime 3 to be one of my most favorite games of all time. This is just a fanbase overreacting over a spin-off that looks pretty fun because they haven't had a main installment in a while and poor marketing. It's identical to the situation N&B was in back in 2007, and if Federation Force is half as enjoyable as N&B, I'll be sure to pick it up.

Nintendo just streamed Federation Force with the Metroid series producer.
To be honest, it does look better than the trailer we got during the Digital Event.

GrayMagicΓ : Finally seeing someone who's interesting in this game is nice! Nice comparison with N&B it's true it's kind of the same situation.

I was disappointed but will not be signing a petition to get it cancelled. I'll simply choose not to buy it.

Looks like pretty harmless fun.

Not sure it will live up to the rest of the series, but a side game doesn't hurt. If Zelda can survive Link's Crossbow Training, Metroid will be fine.

Not sure I'd pay a lot for it, but if it turns out decent, I might sink some time into it with my friends.
Well meaning Wally.

I don't understand why the big companies constantly make decisions to try spin off multiplayer games rather than give the consumer what they want.
Want Banjo-Threeie? Here's a Lego building game
Want a console Metroid Prime? Here's a handheld multiplayer game
Want Mario Sunshine 2? Here's Mario Tennis
Want Animal Crossing? Here's a board game
Want DK64 sequel? Here's some plastic bongo drums
Want Luigis Mansion 2 on WiiU? Nah we'll throw it on a handheld regardless of how poo-poo it will look

Etc

I know, and Metroid Prime being absent in Metroid Prime Hunters suggests Nintendo aren't really sticking to that reasoning when using the "Prime" subtitle is all I'm saying.

It's just not a Metroid game. Change the title.

When I saw the trailer in the digital event I thought to myself "oh cool you can play as thr federation in this game". I felt the trailer was kinda "meh" and I figured Nintendo might reveal a Metroid Prime for the WiiU sometime after. I already knew that the Metroid fanbase was going to hate this game if no Main series metroid game was announced.

The actual gameplay from the treehouse live event did the game more justice than the trailer.

I'll approach this title with an open mind.

I'll admit, I was one of those people who was pretty upset at the trailer reveal. It's not the Metroid game I wanted, etc. I didn't downvote it on YouTube and I'm not gonna sign the silly petition, but I currently have no plans to buy it. (I've also only seen the trailer, not the Treehouse gameplay.)

To echo Jphthe1, it's not a Metroid game. Change the title, and it'd be fine.

That being said, I probably still wouldn't buy it because the game itself doesn't sound like my kind of thing, regardless of what IP is slapped on it. :?
No, not all Xbox owners are dudebros who love grey-and-brown PvP FPSes. Please feel free to quit stereotyping now.

I'm willing to give this a chance, so long as the single player mode is good.

I'm certainly not signing the petition - if you don't want something, just don't buy it.
