Ah, man. I agree that their next games will surely be even better. These guys making games again is something I've wanted since before Mingy Jongo. For me the Kirkhope/Wise soundtracks, alone...
Agreed the roll move likely has something to do with YL's worlds being a bit more spacious.
Interesting to see that comparison of different world Tooie worlds
Good to note that this world has a lot of verticality (as well as going inside things, Tribalstack didn't seem to have much for indoor areas).
I do think that there area reasons this gameplay has elicited a (relatively) negative response.
Compare these two gameplay videos:

The casino world just isn't as lush as the others, not quite what gamers these days are used to. It looks relatively more like a videogame world than an actual place one could visit. And the flat, wide open areas with mis-matched proportions could be what's giving some the initial impression of cheapness.
Still, I would speculate they'll respond more positively when actually playing the level as opposed to using it as a basis for evaluating the merits of this particular kickstarter project
My personal opinion is that this world doesn't look quite as nicely wrought as others, but still has a lot of potential. The aesthetic choices feel so retro! Again, great details in the casino level (the giant curtain, chandeliers, flashing lights)
