BE IN THE GAME Reward Confusion?!?!?!?

Postby Marthix » Thu May 07, 2015 11:09 am

So for the 10 or so people (who pledged money for the Kickstarter) who will voice a character in the game, how will go about being trained by Chris Sutherland? Will it be via internet connection or will we have to personally fly over to the UK to be trained by Chris? Anyone know? I pledged over $5,000 for this opportunity. Does anyone know how big my character's role could be?

I assume down the line you will be contacted on how its done. I can't imagine that it would be done at home, you would need the equipment and programs

Don't quote me on this though.

The reward says it "ships anywhere in the world", so I would expect an online chat over Skype would be used. You will probably have to record your own mumbles at home and then send the audio file to Playtonic where they will make tweaks where necessary.

You probably won't be voicing a main character; 15 people have paid for the voice reward. I can't imagine there being 15 main characters on top of Yooka and Laylee. It wouldn't surprise me if you're all voicing a type of Jinjo or something -- a really minor character.

I suspect Playtonic will send out an informative email to all the voice backers soon explaining and clarifying everything. You can also contact Playtonic directly through the Kickstarter to ask your questions and they'll get back to you as soon as they can.

I would guess Skype, with the "mumblespeak" they can manipulate poor audio or bad "acting" pretty easily.

Thanks for the responses everyone! Appreciate them! Yeah, I was really concerned about how this is going to happen. I sent them an e-mail and they haven't responded yet. I realize that they are receiving thousands of e-mails in regards to this game so it may take some time. Well, if it's mumbles or actual voice acting, these way it's pretty cool I will be in the game. I will play my character passionately, whoever he (or she...although I'm a guy...lol) is!

I actually might be flying over to the UK anyway this October and I see Derby, UK (which I assume is Playtonic's HQ location) is right by where I am going to so I could stop by and make my trip longer if need be. Hmm...I guess I just need to patiently wait until they contact me. Thanks again for the responses. Keep them coming!

I was wondering about this too, though I didn't donate at that level.

You would either need high quality recording equipment (not that hard to get - free recording software, $200+ mic, $40 usb audio-interface) or to fly to the UK.

Since the concert mentions that you need to provide your own travel, I'm sort of assuming they're expecting the coaching to be via Skype or something and then you just record at home and send in the audio.

As for what character, expect to be someone like Chimpy or Nabnut or Snacker. Minor characters that offer up a single Pagie and some comedic relief. The main characters will almost certainly be voiced by the devs so they don't need to track down old voice actors again for future games.

Looking at the audio quality of the people at PT involved I can't imagine people using home equipement or even internetconnections. I regularly sit with clients during audio recordings for film. I can imagine that Playtonic could connect to studio's all over the world by using a phoneconnection. But the actual voice-overs will be done in a studio. Can't imagine it any other way.

Playtonic has their own audio studio. So that won't be necessary to pay for.

Hey I saw that they'll be choosing the character for you, but I feel like if your voice has the right feel then you may find yourself with a memorable character. It really depends on what fits.

Mumbles loop well and are easily reused, so they wouldn't have to track down the backers to have them rerecord voices for other games. I didn't go for that reward, but for those who did, I don't see why their voice recordings couldn't be used for recurring characters in any other games that may follow!

I'm not saying they should be, just that it would not be hard to do at all.
