I'm assuming most of us on this site have already ordered the game so reviews won't make a difference to us and of course, we WANT to love it.
The one thing I will say is that on balance, reviewers do try to get it right on games like this. When you're talking about Call of Duty, you can't trust them because there is a very real conflict of interest there. But in this case, they have no reason to not give honest opinions. Many of us will probably find that we enjoy the game but maybe don't finish it because it gets too grindy towards the end. Some of us will finish it 100% and proclaim it the child of all that is love. Others will not like it from the off simply because it wasn't what they were actually expecting.
Major game sites review their games for the majority of people - if they think this is actually a pretty hard core platformer that only those with eyes for retro games will enjoy, they can't go telling their fanbase to go out and buy it.
I'm not so worried tbh. The toybox was pretty much what I was expecting and I know the internet will help me when I get stuck. Roll on the 11th!
